Set in the Nier universe, Automata is an action role-playing game released by Square Enix for PS4 and PC. Playing as a brave female robot warrior, you will accompany your teammates to fight against evil forces that want to invade the world.

Characters and background

N:A has some relationship with the NieR game, which takes place after the fourth ending, but there is no plot cohesion between the games so players can skip the previous series. Set in 11945 AD, the story revolves around a war between the remnants of humanity and invading mechanical forces from another world. The invasion forced humanity to retreat to the moon. Humans send the Androids in the YoRHa unit to the ground to destroy the invader. While denying their emotions and not having real names, they share an attitude that distinguishes themselves from other teammates. The YoRHa unit is commanded from Bong-ke, a reconnaissance base in orbit above Earth, and forms an underground resistance force to fight the Machines.

The main character is YoRHa No. 2 Model B, or 2B for short, an Androids model in the form of a woman, with a calm and serious personality. Accompanying her is the 9S (YoRHa No. 9 Model S), a detective Android who shows more emotions than other YoRHa; there was also a prototype that defected from YoRHa, designated A2 (YoRHa No. 2 prototype A). Other characters include the Commander, a leader of the Androids and Bong-ke, Adam and Eve, twin robot twins whose motives are unknown; Pascal, a peace-loving machine, hates war; Devola and Popola, 2 living medical androids of the resistance, individuals believed to have been created since humans were still alive on earth; and many other operating androids; Anemone – commander of the resistance on earth; along with many other characters, some related to Nier and Drakengara 3.

Right after the game’s launch, according to an interesting statistic of Fextralife, 39.71% of Nier: Automata players (in both PC and PS4 versions) achieved “What Are You Doing” (1 of 48 achievements of the game). What’s more special, to complete this achievement, players will have to “look at the skirt” of the female character 2B 10 times.
