About My Reincarnation as a Slime

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slimeor commonly known as “TenSura” because no one wants to remember that long name, is a relatively famous “isekai” (different world) anime with millions of fans around the world.

The story revolves around Mikami Satoru, an ordinary office worker living in Tokyo. He has no passion or ambition, is 37 years old, has no girlfriend, no wife, no children and is satisfied with his boring life.

Until one day, while walking down the street with his friends, he was stabbed by a stranger… and when he woke up, he discovered that he had been reincarnated. Even more horrifying, he discovered that his form was not human but a… weak “slime”.

However, the guy – now renamed Rimuru Tempest after meeting the dragon Veldora – has the special ability “Predator”, which allows the slime to “eat” anything and absorb the appearance, abilities, and memories of the eaten object.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime ISEKAI Chronicles The plot follows a “light novel” format, with still images cut directly from the anime, so anyone who has watched the entire anime will be relatively familiar with the game’s visuals.

In terms of content, the game covers everything from the beginning to the battle with the kingdom of Falmuth, which means it covers almost the entire first two seasons of the anime. It also comes with two brand new storylines written by the author of TenSura – FUSE.

A big plus is that the whole thing is fully voiced, so fans TenSura will be relatively satisfied with the amount of content contained in this game.

For the writer, another plus point is the way the scenes are arranged. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime ISEKAL Chronicles style of games Tales of old, like Tales of the Abyss good Tales of Symphonia. This will be evident in the combat part which the author will discuss later.

Slime ISEKAI Chronicles

Fun fighting!

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime ISEKAI Chronicles is divided into two main parts, in which the basic story part is to “assign missions” to Rimuru and his friends to different dungeons, where we will explore and fight.

Specifically, as you progress through the storyline, the game will “throw” you into a dungeon, and your tasks are quite diverse, from defeating the final boss of the dungeon to picking up an object.

As mentioned above, the fight of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime ISEKAI Chronicles inspired by Tales of (old), meaning the game has real-time action on a horizontal 2D plane, moving and using moves to defeat opponents on the same plane.

That said, the game doesn't have as detailed and thorough a combat mechanism as other games. Tales ofmainly… “slash slash slash”, then unleash ultimate moves to accumulate enemies. Overall the game is quite easy, the combat mechanism is also quite fun, especially for players who want to immerse themselves in the world of TenSura.

Slime ISEKAI Chronicles

The game is quite easy, the combat mechanism is also quite fun.

A plus for That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime ISEKAI Chronicles is a game that allows players to control many different team characters such as Gobta, Ranga, Shuna, Shion, etc., not just limited to Rimuru, and each person has their own special moves, thus also contributing to reducing monotony and repetition.

The second part is the base building part, specifically, players can build Rimuru's goblin village into a giant kingdom. Players start with a few dilapidated huts, then through the storyline and exploring dungeons, they will have materials to build supermarkets, houses, etc.

In reality, players have almost no meaningful interaction with the houses in the village, they simply increase stats before going into battle, occasionally “accidentally” unlocking special skills for a certain character.

However, the character models in the village are extremely cute, so walking around the village and admiring the scenery is also a leisurely pleasure.

Boring repetition!

Because the combat is so simple, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime ISEKAI Chronicles quickly gives players a feeling of repetitive boredom.

This repetition is shown throughout the game in many ways, for example, the characters only have exactly… one line of dialogue when leveling up skill points, if the player levels up many skill points at once, they have to listen to the character say the same exact line! The NPCs (supporting characters) in town are no better, some have… two lines of dialogue, some have one line over and over again, and that line of dialogue is played every time Rimuru gets close to that NPC.

Another problem is that the dungeons are relatively simple, linear, and lack any variation. Monsters are poor, although I know that there aren't that many monsters in TenSura, but the number of monsters (excluding bosses) that can be counted on one hand seems to lack variety.

Not to mention some parts require players to “plow” quite a bit if they want to build houses, but what's the fun in just going back and forth to the dungeon like that?

Fighting is fun at the beginning, but towards the end, the writer feels like he almost “turns off his brain” to play the game, just “spam” attack, attack, attack, then fills up the ultimate bar and then releases. “Brain-shutdown” playing the game is not necessarily a bad experience if someone needs maximum entertainment and relaxation, but perhaps many players will not like it.

This repetition is evident throughout the game in many ways.

Slime ISEKAI Chronicles

Nothing special

Calculate then That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime ISEKAI Chronicles has a price equivalent to quite a few “hot-hit” games today (the Digital Deluxe version costs… 1.2 million VND), but frankly, all aspects of the game are below average.

The character animations are a bit stiff, the music is limited, and the graphics don't really have any distinctive style. Perhaps the strong point here is that the game is fully voiced, from start to finish.

Sometimes, the plot structure and missions make players feel like this is more like a mobile game than a complete game for regular systems.

That being said, the game does have some pretty nice 3D graphics, and the combat runs at a pretty stable 60 FPS, giving it a smooth and fluid feel.

Frankly, all aspects of the game are below average.
